Roseline Shark – A Vibrant and Active Fish for Your Aquarium
The Roseline Shark (Sahyadria denisonii), also known as the Rainbow Shark or Red-Finned Shark, is a striking and active freshwater fish that adds vibrant color and dynamic movement to any aquarium. Known for its bright red fins and sleek, streamlined body, this fish is a standout in both small and large tanks alike. It is native to the rivers of India and Sri Lanka, where it thrives in fast-flowing waters.
Despite its "shark" name, the Roseline Shark is a peaceful and non-aggressive species, but it is highly active and can sometimes exhibit territorial behavior, especially in smaller tanks or when housed with other fish of similar size. Its energetic swimming patterns make it a fun and lively addition to community aquariums. Roseline Sharks are best kept with other non-aggressive species that enjoy similar water conditions.
Care Requirements:
Tank Size: Minimum of 30 gallons (114 liters) for a single Roseline Shark. These fish are active swimmers and need plenty of space to roam. A larger tank is recommended for multiple Roseline Sharks or with other fish.
Water Temperature: 72-78°F (22-26°C), with a stable temperature.
Water pH: Slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6.5 - 7.5).
Water Hardness: Soft to medium (5-12 dGH).
Filtration: Strong filtration is essential to maintain clean and oxygenated water. Roseline Sharks thrive in well-filtered environments, and regular water changes (25% weekly) are important to ensure they stay healthy.
Diet: Omnivorous. Roseline Sharks are not picky eaters and will enjoy a variety of foods. Feed them high-quality flakes, pellets, live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms, and occasional vegetable matter such as spirulina or peas.
Tankmates: Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Roseline Sharks are generally peaceful but can be territorial, particularly towards other fish with similar body shapes or species. They do best with other peaceful fish such as tetras, rasboras, and larger non-aggressive species. Avoid keeping them with very aggressive or slow-moving fish.
Lighting: Moderate lighting enhances their beautiful colors. They enjoy a well-lit environment, but also appreciate some shaded areas where they can hide or retreat if needed.
Schooling: While not a schooling fish, Roseline Sharks are best kept in small groups of 3 or more to prevent territorial aggression and to allow them to exhibit their natural social behaviors.
Decor: Provide a tank with plenty of swimming space and some hiding spots, such as rocks, caves, or plants, to reduce stress and provide a sense of security. A fine gravel or sand substrate is ideal for these fish. Be sure to avoid overly dense planting or decorations that restrict swimming space.
Water Quality: Regular water changes and strong filtration are essential to keep water quality high and stable. Roseline Sharks are sensitive to poor water conditions, so keeping the tank clean and monitoring water parameters is key to their health.
The fish you will receive is 1.5" in size.
