Platinum Roseline Shark – A Stunning and Unique Addition to Your Aquarium

The Platinum Roseline Shark (Sahyadria denisonii) is a striking and rare variant of the classic Roseline Shark, known for its brilliant, silvery-white body and vibrant red fins. This stunning freshwater fish, sometimes called the Platinum Rainbow Shark, is an eye-catching addition to any aquarium. With its sleek, streamlined body and unique platinum hue, it is a more refined version of the classic Roseline Shark and is highly sought after for its aesthetic beauty and energetic nature.

The Platinum Roseline Shark shares similar care requirements with its regular Roseline counterpart, thriving in well-maintained aquariums with stable water conditions. Despite its “shark” name, it is not aggressive but is quite active and may show territorial tendencies, especially in smaller tanks or when competing for space with other fish. With its peaceful yet active nature, the Platinum Roseline Shark is perfect for a community aquarium where it can add a splash of color and movement.

Care Requirements:

  • Tank Size: Minimum of 30 gallons (114 liters) for a single Platinum Roseline Shark. As active swimmers, they need ample space to thrive, and a larger tank is ideal if keeping multiple sharks or other tankmates.

  • Water Temperature: 72-78°F (22-26°C), with a stable temperature.

  • Water pH: Slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6.5 - 7.5).

  • Water Hardness: Soft to medium (5-12 dGH).

  • Filtration: Strong filtration is essential to maintain clean, well-oxygenated water. Regular water changes (at least 25% weekly) are recommended to maintain good water quality for these active swimmers.

  • Diet: Omnivorous. The Platinum Roseline Shark will enjoy a varied diet, including high-quality cichlid pellets, flakes, live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms, and occasional vegetable matter such as spirulina, peas, or blanched zucchini. A balanced diet will help keep them healthy and vibrant.

  • Tankmates: Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Platinum Roseline Sharks are generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially towards other fish that resemble them. They do well with other peaceful species like tetras, rasboras, and medium-sized non-aggressive cichlids. Avoid keeping them with very aggressive fish or slow-moving species that might be stressed.

  • Lighting: Moderate lighting will bring out their platinum sheen and red fins. They prefer a well-lit tank but should also have shaded areas to feel secure.

  • Schooling: While not a schooling fish, Platinum Roseline Sharks do best when kept in small groups of 3 or more. This helps reduce territorial aggression and encourages natural social behavior.

  • Decor: Provide a tank with plenty of swimming space, complemented by rocks, caves, or plants for hiding and creating territories. A fine sand or gravel substrate is ideal, with an emphasis on keeping the swimming area open and clear.

  • Water Quality: Regular water changes and strong filtration are key to maintaining stable water quality. These fish are sensitive to poor water conditions, so proper tank maintenance is essential to their health.
